Apple Store Application Design
An ongoing collaboration as the product team's solo all-in-one designer.
1. Overview
I joined an App Store development team as its solo all-in-one designer. From 2022 to the present, I have designed 10 applications spanning vehicle controls, robot vacuums, drones, smart TVs, speakers, facility management, and a social-network product.
Each engagement begins with a short functional brief. I research comparable products, establish a visual direction, design the interface, refine the experience using patterns from existing apps, and produce the icons and screenshots required for App Store submission.
These projects are primarily UI-focused, so the work prioritises visual quality, consistency, delivery speed, and store readiness over deep product-discovery research.
A typical app takes around 40 hours and includes four main functions, approximately 40 screens, an app icon, and a complete App Store screenshot set.
2. Working Way
- Maintain a reusable collection of icons, colour themes, fonts, and moodboard references.
- Review applications with similar functions to understand conventions and opportunities.
- Use each engagement to strengthen UI craft and accessibility knowledge.
3. Skillset
The work combines UI design and graphic design. My primary tools are Figma, Lottie, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop.
4. Privacy
Some applications cannot be revealed or shared publicly. Their screens remain private even when the visual theme is modified, and App Store links are also restricted.
The showcase below contains only the work that can be displayed safely.
5. Process
Create a moodboard
Design the main screen to establish the core style
Build the colour library and typography system
Design the complete UI, App Store screenshots, and app icon
